150 bandits attack Sokoto villages and cart away cows at gunpoint

Unknown gunmen of about 150 in number have reportedly stormed Tarana Mahuta and Bagurba villages, Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State and made away with an undisclosed number of cows at gunpoint.

Police command of the Sokoto division confirmed the attack and the cow rustling, but they were silent on alleged killings in Tureta.

This news has been confirmed from the Sokoto Police Command PPRO, ASP Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq. He summarised the news in a two-paragraph statement issued today on Tuesday 8th of October 2019 in the hours after the attack that took place.

It was confirmed that the attack took place late in the night on Monday 7th October 2019 when the community had gone to bed. They were alarmed by the rustling sound coming from the cows but the members of the community could not do anything as they were all intercepted at gunpoint.

According to the statement issued by the Sokoto Police Command:

“Some unknown gunmen in numbers of about 150 stormed Tarana Mahuta and Bagurba villages of Tureta local government area in the night and carted away undisclosed number of cows from the villagers at gunpoint. The state command has intensified their patrols along the affected axis, and deployed more special trailing forces with a view and insight to retrieving all that were made away with by these bandits”

The information gathered, however, has indicated that the bandits ransacked villages in Tureta and killed the villagers after they must have stolen their foodstuffs and cows.
