Just a few days ago, a tanker fell at Onitsha causing serious property loss and claiming the life of a young woman with her child. Unfortunately, another tanker has fallen and disaster befell Anambra State in the early hours today Friday 18th of October 2019.
A person who witnessed how the incident occurred and how the tanker fell said the disaster occurred around 3:00 a.m. The incident happened along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by Bessoy filling station, Onitsha, Anambra State, the witness confirmed.
This new fire incident came 48 hours after lives were lost following the recent fuel tanker explosion in Upper Iweka by Ochanja market, Onitsha. The tanker conveying petrol was said to have fallen in the middle of the road, spilling its contents into the drainages uncontrollably.
Some residents near the area had to flee from their houses for fear of being consumed by fire due to what had occurred recently. Properties worth millions of naira including buildings, vehicles and other worthwhile valuables were confirmed to have been gutted by the fire. No lives were lost as of the time of filing the report.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra state, John Abang has been so down with the news of the fire outbreak confirmed as he confirms the incident. He said: “This time around, we give credit to the fire services as they responded well after they were contacted by my men and the fire was put off before it could damage more things.”
