Corps member slumps and dies in Ebonyi motor park

An NYSC Corper who has been identified as Obotti Zion who was undergoing his one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps in Ebonyi State, slumped and died at Peace Mass Transit park, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The late corps member ‘Obotti’ was an indigene of Cross River State who was serving in Ebonyi.

Investigations revealed that Obotti on arriving at the motor park had gone straight to the ticket section where he bought his ticket and wrote his name in the passengers’ manifest after which he went on board. Suddenly, eyewitnesses said, he collapsed and died while still waiting for the bus to get filled up.

It was reported that the management of the transport company he boarded had alerted NYSC secretariat, which got to the scene on time and took him to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospitality, Abakaliki, where doctors also confirmed him dead.

The Ebonyi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs Ann Ibeh, confirmed the incident and said that the death was unfortunate, considering the fact that the deceased had only a few months left to the conclusion of his service year.

When asked if an autopsy would be conducted on his body, the state coordinator said the decision belonged to the family of the deceased.

All efforts to reach the Ebonyi State Police Command over the incident proved abortive. The calls that have been put to the mobile phone of the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah, were also unsuccessful as her line was not available as of the time of filing this report, NAN confirmed.
