A 27-year-old former serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, Mohammed Bello Kolo was arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, who allegedly posed as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammed Bello, to defraud his victims of over N52m.
According to the report by the police, the suspect was arrested by the personnel that was attached to the State Intelligence Bureau of the command following a complaint received on October 28th 2019. The Commissioner of Police for the FCT division, Bala Ciroma, on Wednesday 30th October 2019, said the ex-corps member had so far defrauded his victims of about N52m, which he allegedly received installmentally under the lies of awarding them federal government contracts.
“Following an urgent call which we received on October 28, 2019, police operatives attached to the SIB arrested one Mohammed Bello Kolo, who had been parading himself as the current Minister of the FCT and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned money. The suspect was found with some items and claimed to have purchased these with the money he received from his victims. We are putting in more efforts to arrest his other gang members, Simon and Idris, who posed as his Director of Procurement and Personal Assistant, respectively. After investigations have been concluded, he will be arraigned to court”.
The police further gave the details that the suspect had confessed that he had access to some classified information, while he was serving at the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
