Dr Isa Ali Pantami who is the federal Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, on Tuesday 5th of November 2019, insisted the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) must work out enough modalities to reduce the high cost of data in the interest of Nigerians.
The reports received from a verified source stated that Pantami said his office has been inundated with complaints from concerned Nigerians about the high cost of data by telecoms.
The Minister has given a mandate to the management of the NCC led by its Board Chairman, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, during a courtesy visit to work out the modalities with other stakeholders in the communication industry in the next five working dates.
The Minister said: “With a saddened heart, I am making a plea to the management of the Nigerian Communications Commission to work towards the reduction of the price of data in Nigeria. It is too costly and people are complaining every single day. If you go to other countries, even countries that are not as well populated as Nigeria, data prices are not this high. I have also had my share of such an ordeal. I am a victim of some of the infractions that are so common in the industry. You load your data, but you barely used upto 20 percent of it and the entire data is wiped off, this is becoming unbearable.”
Isa Pantami, also made it known to the Nigerians Communication Commission that they should have a record of how data is been deducted because the way the deduction is being done is in a fraudulent manner.
