On Sunday 3rd of November 2019, some corpers spoke with some news reporter stating the fact that some of them have still not collected the stipend that they are meant to collect as electoral officers during the last general elections in Ogun State.
These corpers protested for non-payment of their stipends by the Independent National Electoral Commission, seven months after the election was held. Some of the corps members, who spoke with the news reporters on Sunday, said they had made sufficient efforts to get their stipends from INEC, but all to no avail.
Some of them also spoke on the condition of being anonymous. They suspect foul play by the INEC officials.
The NYSC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Florence Takum, also confirmed the debt. She said: “The office is aware and is doing everything possible to assist them; it has assisted a lot of them and still assisting them”.
The INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Adenike Tadese was also contacted and she also confirmed the debt She said: “Some of the problems we are having is that some of them wrote wrong account numbers. We have posted their money into their accounts, but their account numbers are not correct. And definitely, we will surely go to the banks for refund and then repost it. When we asked some of them to give us their account numbers, they gave us their phone numbers. So, those are the problems we are facing. We are on top of the situation. We are trying to sort things out. In no distance time, they will get their money.”
