Kaduna State Suspends Lecturer that was Accused of Demanding Sex for Grades

The Kaduna State University has been under a lot of stress following a one-man protest by a female student who filed a report to the management of the varsity soliciting for the dismissal of a lecturer who asked her for sex in order for her to pass his course while she was still a student of the varsity.

The management of the Kaduna State University (KASU) has thereby suspended one of the lecturers involved who goes by the name Mr Bala Umar, for allegedly soliciting sex for a grade from a female student. This has come as a shock to most people because of the recent documentary about ‘sex for grades’.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Kaduna State University, Professor Abdullahi Ashafa, explained that the suspension of the lecturer was due to a one-man protest at the institution by a female graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), who outrightly accused Uman of demanding sex from her in 2013 while she was still a student of the varsity.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, the current Governor of Kaduna State condemned the purported action of the said lecturer to demand sex for marks. In a tweet which he posted from his verified Twitter handle, the governor stated that the suspension of Professor Umar by KASU was the first step in making sure all found guilty face the weight of the law.

He also added that the suspended lecturer and 15 others which were also sacked by ABU for alleged sexual harassment would be fully investigated and prosecuted.
