Man impersonates Commissioner of Police and dupes Senator of 1.8 million Naira

One Ibrahim Mohammed Maigandi has been arrested for impersonating the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police ‘Usman Nagogo’ and duping the senator representing Zamfara West ‘Lawal Hassan Dan Iya’, of 1.8 Million Naira.

Mohammed is from Moriki Town in Zamfara State and parades himself as the Commissioner of Police ‘Usman Nagogo’ in charge of Zamfara.

He was napped and arrested after the police received a report from senator Iya that a certain man claiming to be the Commissioner of Police ‘Usman Nagogo’ called him and demanded for a sallah gift.

When the suspect called, the senator directed his personal assistant to collect the suspect’s account details and transfer the sum of two hundred thousand naira to him.

Thereafter, the suspect ‘Mohammed’ called again and told the senator that he had given him 9 slots for Cadet ASP and Cadet Inspector and asked the senator to pay the sum of 2 million naira for all the slots.

The senator directed his personal assistant again to pay 1.6 million naira into the suspects account giving us a total of 1.8 million naira.

Days later, the senator discovered that he had been duped when he visited the Commissioner of Police and gave him all the details of his activity with the impersonator. 

Based on the complaint from the affected senator, the police commenced an investigation and they finally tracked the fake CP through his GSM and apprehended him in Gusau town.

According to the police report, Mohammed did not deny committing the offence as this was not his first time committing such fraud. The police have also confiscated his Mercedes car worth N1.4 million.
