American Middleweight Boxer, Patrick Day was put into a coma on Saturday after he was knocked out in the 10th round of his super welterweight bout in Chicago. He was confirmed dead on Wednesday 16th October by his promoter Lou DiBella.
“Day was surrounded by his family, close friends and the members of his boxing team, he was a wonderful son, brother, and good friend to many. He was kind, positive and generous”.
Patrick Day was taken from the ring on a stretcher after the conclusion of the fight on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight victory over his opponent Chazz Witherspoon in the US. It was gathered that Day didn’t even need to box as he came from a good family. He was smart, educated, had very good values and other ways available to him to earn a living. However, he chose to box upon knowing all the risks that every fighter faces when he takes a walk into the boxing ring.
Patrick Day loved to box and that is how he inspires a lot of people and it was something that made him feel very alive. Patrick Day won 17 of his total 22 fights, with four defeats and one draw. All his colleagues honour the legacy of Pat Day as he was fondly called and wished he had lived longer than his 27 years of age. They, however, wish his family strength to stay strong during this trialling time as Day was indeed a pillar support to his family.
