The Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano sympathises with the family of a woman and her child who was burnt to death in a truck accident in Onitsha and to everyone who lost their shops and goods in the fire outbreak.
Governor Willie Obiano has also directed all the owners of properties that were affected by the tragic accident, including shop owners, to report at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government on Monday, October 21st 2019, to see how the Anambra State Government can help them. The accident was indeed a tragic one which occurred on Wednesday 16th October 2019, when a tanker carrying petrol suddenly fell into a ditch and began to spill out its contents. This, however, resulted in a fire outbreak which started spreading. All efforts to get water and contact the fire service were in vain and hence, the fire kept spreading.
In a statement which the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment Don Adinuba gave, he said that a panel/committee will be set up immediately to determine what led to the accident and why the firemen could not put out the fire and what can be done for the victims of the fire accident.
So many properties were lost, including the life of a young woman and her child. The governor, however, prayed for the souls of the woman and child who died in the accident, further stating that the Anambra State Government will assist their families in their burials.
