Today Tuesday 8th October, the Nigerian Police of the Agege division Lagos State arraigned a 43-year-old shop owner, Mr Taiwo Adekeye, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for the crime of allegedly assaulting his wife, Mrs Toyin Adekaye. Taiwo Adekeye who is a resident of Agege area in Lagos State has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge he has been accused of.
The Prosecution, Inspector Emmanuel Ajayi, said that the defendant had committed the offence on the 29th day in December 2018 at Mushin area in Lagos State. He alleged that the defendant had beaten up his wife to a pulp and this is an infringement of the Lagos State Domestic Violence Law 2017.
The offence committed, he said, has violated the provisions of Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section which carries one-year imprisonment for assault for any convicted offender must be duly followed.
After hearing from the persecution and defendants, the Magistrate in charge of the case, Magistrate O.O. Fagbohun acknowledged the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in the same like sum. The Magistrate also ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years of tax payments with due receipts to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions. The case was adjourned to the 20th day in November 2019.
