Lagos state police have successfully arrested a suspect in respect of the ongoing investigation of a failed bank robbery that took place recently in Olorunshogo area of Mushin, Lagos State.
The suspect has been identified as Mahmoud Mohammed.
It was confirmed that the suspect and his gang members, on the 24th of September 2019 at about 3.50pm, attempted to rob a bank before they were refrained by some police officers in Olosan Police Station. This was led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ayodele Arogbo.
Information gathered was that the group was a four-man gang, who stormed the bank in two motorcycles. When the police got the information about the robbery and arrived at the bank, there was an engagement of gun battle between the police and the robbers.
Reports confirmed that the DPO, who was on a surveillance patrol of that area, came across the suspects on two motorcycles. Mohammed who was arrested was caught with four locally-made shotguns and 45 pieces of live ammunition.
After thorough torture, Mohammed confessed that his gang members specialised in robbing banks and their customers in Lagos and other states. He added that they had successfully robbed many victims based on the information they receive.
The state police have begun an investigation of the gang members. The state commissioner of police in the person of Zubairu Muazu has ordered that the case be transferred to the special anti-robbery unit for further investigation so as to intensify all efforts to get the three remaining gang members.
