The Police Command of the Oyo State division has just uncovered an illegal and unlawful rehabilitation centre at Olore Central Mosque in Ojoo area of Ibadan, where it has reportedly rescued over 200 inmates.
Addressing the news reporters on Monday 4th November 2019 in Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu, of the Ibadan division said the illegal centre was discovered following a tip by an informant.
Mr Shina Olukolu said that different young men and women were found at the centre and they had been subjected to outrageous inhuman treatment. He made it known that there were five individuals who are suspected to be connected with the Islamic centre and they have all been arrested. He further added that the police would secure the facility and conduct further investigations.
Those involved would be prosecuted to serve as a warning to others, the commissioner of police said. Meanwhile, Mrs Faosat Sanni who is the Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, said the state would relocate the victims to a safe house and those with health challenges would be taken to the hospital.
The owner of the mosque and rehabilitation centre, Alfa Ismail Olore confessed that the parents of those found at the centre were brought to him to heal them of their ‘illnesses.’
Alfa Ismail Olore said some of the parents had even instructed him to chain the wards that were brought to the centre, but he only used Quran recitation to cure their illnesses.
