The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the person in charge of the governing board of the state has declared a state of emergency on various dilapidated highways and carriages within the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday ordered that the massive construction work on the critical roads all across the state beginning from Monday 14th October 2019 are declared dilapidated and hence, due for reconstructing.
Governor Babajide who had been in a series of meetings with eight high profile engineering firms confirmed that they had been given the instruction to immediately mobilise their equipment on the sites and commence major construction works on those identified roads.
The Governor acknowledged that he was aware of the movement pains Lagosians were experiencing in the past few days which was also compounded by the sudden constant heavy rainfall. He appealed to all Lagosians to bear with the government while urgent efforts were being made to bring permanent relief to them all.
Some of the dilapidated listed critical highways and roads to be constructed include Ojota stretch of Ikorodu road, Ikorodu area of the state, Motorways-Kudirat Abiola Way, which is one major highway in the state, Apogbon Highway, Ijede Road and Agric/Ishawo Road in Ikorodu and Lekki-Epe expressway.thThis is one of the major roads which leads to the island from the mainland, the road is to be reconstructed starting from Abraham Adesanya to Eleko junction. Finally, the network roads in Ikoyi, Ikeja GRA and Victoria Island.
