Supreme Court throws out Atiku appeal

On Tuesday 30th of October 2019, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeals which were filed by the by PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the victory of President Muhammed Buhari of the APC at the February 23rd election poll.

The seven-man panel of the apex court was led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Mohammed who said the panel agreed that there is no merit in the appeal. The appeal was hereby dismissed.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria added that the panel has been reviewing the case for the past two weeks and still could not find any legal backings to the case of appeal against President Muhammed Buhari to prove that it was indeed that he had cheated during the election. As such, it was proven that the PDP and its candidate Atiku Abubakar had no case to file.

Atiku Abubakar and his party people were challenging the September 11th judgment which was led by Justice Mohammed Garba, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which also had affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls.

Atiku Abubakar and all his party agents left the court with their heads bowed down as they have lost the case after several months of fighting it. It was a clear victory for President Muhammed Buhari and his party people, as he sets to spend another four years in power.

Atiku however, tweeted that he is not sad about the news as he is only worried for the safety of the people of this nation.
