Two individuals have been arrested and remanded in prison for impersonating the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Lagos. They have both been identified as ‘Ikechukwu Victor’ and ‘Emeka Ewuzien’. In a statement which was issued by the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, reads:
“These suspects were both arrested on the 29th of October 2019 at about 10.00 AM. The Operatives from Ifako Police Division which was led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Lasisi Iyunade, captured the men dressed in black T-Shirts with the inscription ‘SARS’ boldly written along Julius Kadri Street, Ifako area, Gbagada, Lagos. On apprehending them, they claimed to be SARS operatives claiming they were on their way to effect an arrest at Bakare Daudu market but however, on further questioning by the police, they claimed to be members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) from Victoria Island, Lagos. Their names are Ikechukwu Victor ‘m’ 45yrs and Emeka Ewuzien ‘m’ 45yrs of No 2 Igi Street, Bariga, and No 30 Abule Okuta Road, Ladylak, Bariga respectively. We also discovered two fake PCRC ID card bearing the same name was recovered from them.”
The suspects have however been charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Home till further notice while all investigations come to an end. This is, however, a warning to the entire public, impersonation is a crime and there will be punishment, the commissioner concluded.
